You can’t play as them. They released descriptions of the entire game and all its contents and options, they even have a thing where you can go fishing in certain spots as Sonic, but Tails, Knuckles and Amy are not playable. At best they’ll be NPCs giving you collectables quests.
Should’ve seen it coming, desu. If they were a gameplay feauture then the trailers would’ve been advertising it from day1. They’re not gonna be DLC content either because DLCs don’t add to the game’s very mechanics in such a major way as 3-5 different gameplay modes.
