I get what you're saying, and I agree they're mostly using the Arthurian personalities, but some of their main traits carry over (Blaze is formal, Knuckles is headstrong). It's probably more a case that the Sonic characters just map surprisingly well to the Arthurian ones. Tails is just Tails in medieval times though, since he doesn't have an Arthurian counterpart.

There’ll never be any definitive worldbuilding or character development in Sonic games because Sega has no idea what they want the series to actually be. Sonic himself is such a blank slate in the games because it’s easier to make him bland rather than make him have actual personality and character development. It’s fucking surreal how Sega treats the whole series despite the fact it’s the only thing that’s kept them alive for decades.

My theory is that Amy and Sonic only work on adaptations because their relationship was never translated from the original adaptation she came from.

Whatever the hell they came up with as the game version of Amy has little to do with what Amy was originally created to be, where she was actually Sonics girlfriend.

Yeah, it's less edgy and less wordy in his official work, but this comic was done when he was still a kid. There's also a lot more of Penders' influence, a lot of the characters talk a bit too formally and don't get to the point (that whole Bark/Sonic part was nice, but not how Sonic would phrase things). He's also pretty blatant in his Bean favoritism here, which is fine for a fancomic.
