The entire first story arc was padding for time. From that point on, more stories focused on "look, new place/person, the exist, we'll actually use them later!" over actual storytelling. Like, the characters weren't created to aid some early stories, the stories were created to facilitate a new setting.

I can see that. I guess they were trying to quickly build a setting that was as big as the pre reboot universe, so as to not lose too many readers early on.

This wouldn't have been bad if the comic survived long enough to explore those new characters and places. But still, we did have fun main and side stories in the meantime. It wasn't a slog go through like in IDW.
