Probably because it was the last cartoon that came out for Sonic, something that a good number of artists watched. Same reason a lot of more recent fancomics base themselves off of Forces and some off of 06 before that. But yeah it keeps surprising me too. I've also noticed non-Boom comics with Sonic's scarf or with Sticks.
