>>131811520Speaking of the reboot, fun fact! The reboot's events were ultimately meant to be temporary; Eventually Archie finished looking through their paper work and realized Ken Penders didn't own ANY characters, he does however own publishing rights. What this meant is that so long as Sega approved of it, they could do whatever they wanted with the story, and that they could not reprint old stories with Penders listed as head-writer unless they gave him some money.
Due to this, they then set about trying to reintroduce all of the old cast. During the then on-going storyline Sonic was fighting fish in the Sol Dimension, and it was becoming clear that the Sol Dimension was not effected by the SGW, and that the main antagonist for the arc was Captain Metal, the Pre-SGW version of Metal Sonic...then the book was canceled before the arc concluded. Scourge was even set to reappear, and Archie even wanted to release a book called Rivals of Sonic The Hedgehog recapping the first appearances of Scourge, Silver, Metal Sonic, and Knuckles which had a 3D Render of Scourge made by Sega to help promote the book, but again, the book was cancleled before any of this could come to pass.
The reason for the book getting canceled had its roots in Penders, but ultimately came down to Worlds Unite blowing a big hoke in their total budget that the sales didn't make up for and the Sonic Boom adaptation flopping since it came before the show which made Boom actually well-liked. This was ultimately enough of a money drain that Archie's staff recommended cancelling their least profitable book, which was ironically, Archie itself. The then-CEO flipped shit and instead put Sonic on hiatus, citing "We aren't Sonic Comics, we're Archie Comics.", and put forth a plan to try and get Sonic's audience into the comic adaptation of Riverdale, under the logic of "Both seem to test well with older readers", despite the fact that Sonic and Riverdale have absolutely nothing in common.
